Motolite

Motolite

What do you call a supremely adjustable and lightweight linear-pull brake? We call it the Motolite.

We've been making the Motolite brake for years, and the design is so nearly perfect that there is no foreseeable reason to ever change it.

The arms are precision ground and then CNC machined into a design that is light, but more importantly strong and reliable. A polished collar fits around the arms and holds the Kool-Stop brake pads in place, while allowing them to be finely tuned for height and toe-in. Very nice.

First introduced in 1990, the pivot mechanism has an excellent track record. It's pre-greased for smooth action and sealed to keep it that way. Specially wound square springs offer a snappy return and are easily adjusted and balanced.

The quick-release works so well and is so simple; the only reason it isn't widely copied is because Shimano doesn't use it. The arms are reversible so the cable can come in from the left or right, and the noodle is lined with Teflon to reduce friction.
