Mountain Crank

Mountain Crank

100% Pure Crank now available from Paul.

Our Mountain Cranks are a great single-ring crank set for single speed mountain bikes, and match the 52mm chainline of our WORD hub.

These cranks use an interlocking chain ring/crank interface secured by four stainless steel chain ring bolts. At this time our chain rings are not sold seperately.

We machine our crank arms from 2024 aluminum, a very strong and stiff material. Then they are given a high polish finish and the black ones get anodized. We currently make two mountain crank arm lengths: 175mm and 180mm. The crank arms have been canted out to clear the wider chainstays of mountain bikes.

The chain rings are machined out of 6.3mm thick aluminum plate; very sturdy. They are currently designed only to work with ⅛" chains (track and bmx), and are unpolished.

Chain rings come in two patterns, determined by their size. 46 and 48 tooth rings have our "Royal Flush" suit of cards design while smaller rings get a "four circles" treatment.

Now for the important part. There are two square taper designs in use today, JIS (Shimano, and pretty much everyone else except Campagnolo), and ISO which is used by Campagnolo. We designed our cranks around Campagnolo 111mm width spindles, so that's what you should use. They make a really affordable one called the ACH, and they make some really nice expensive ones too. We also strongly recommend the Phil Wood 110.5 Campy taper bottom backet which lets you fine tune the chain line.
