Original Mert Lawell Pro Cruiser

I stumbled upon this bike when an old college pal wanted to buy some bike parts from us. We got to talking and I asked him about his Lawell he bought new in Marin where he went to high school. We came to an agreement on a deal and the bike was mine. This is one of the first ten frames built by the man himself. ( I think the rest were made in Japan, but not sure) I believe it is one of the first mountain bikes ever made, probably mid seventies. It is a very special piece of bike history, in my mind at least. If you are a serious collector and are interested in adding it to your quiver give me a call.

Original three piece Phil hubs, Mafac Tandem brakes, Magura levers with intact rubber covers, BMX bottom bracket with an adapter for three piece unit. Cranks are Sugino AT, brooks saddle, no rear derailleur. Yes, it has the weird rear dropouts machined from square bar stock.
