  • What is Cable Pull?
Short Pull, Long Pull or Campagnolo? ↓

Short Pull: This version is designed to work with road levers, including SRAM, Shimano and combined shifter/brake levers. It also works great with the Canti Lever, our short-pull flat bar brake lever.

Long Pull: This version is designed to work with long-pull brake levers, such as the kind that work with V or linear-pull brakes. Our Love Levers work especially well with this model. It also works well with long-pull drop bar levers, such as the Cane Creek Drop V.

Campagnolo: Campy uses a super-short cable pull, so this Klamper uses a super short Campy-only actuator arm.

Product Story

It took 3 years of in-house development before the Klamper met all of our extremely high goals. We wanted absolute reliability, easy adjustability, and field serviceability. We wanted super strong stopping power but without hydraulic fluid and fussy bleed kits. After countless drawing revisions, fine tuning of piston design and bearing ramp profiles, and probably 20 prototypes, we nailed it, and the Klamper has quickly become a cult classic.

What’s the secret sauce? We don’t want to give away all our engineering secrets, but the bulk of our power comes from using oversized ball bearings, and machining our pistons from 12L14 steel. Using this steel alloy allows us to heat treat the pistons which also hardens the bearing ramp races to resist pitting for a lifetime of silky smooth lever pull. Using flat needle roller thrust bearings instead of a plastic thrust washers doesn’t hurt either.

These brakes are perfect for long mileage deep wilderness bike touring where field serviceability with nothing but a good multitool is crucial to getting back to civilization alive. They’re also great on cyclocross race bikes where tool free independent pad adjustment and a simple cable barrel adjuster means you can fine-tune brake feel specific to course and conditions. We constantly see them on custom built steel hardtails and gravel grinder shred sleds where a rider wants the proven quality of as many American made components as possible.

As with our I.S. Mount Klamper, the Flat-Mount version features interchangeable actuator arms.

We decided not to make rotors. That’s a manufacturing process we do not do, and they are readily available. Floating rotors with large buttons (like Hope) might rub against the caliper, but we’ve had great results with Shimano Ice-Tech, Sram, Avid, and most other rotor brands. The pads we supply are Kool Stop sintered metallic.

As always, allow a couple short rides to bed in the pads. Around the 3rd ride, these brakes really start to BITE!

Replacement pads can be found HERE.

Mounting hardware length is dependent on frame design and adapter, thus not included, but available HERE.

Since we’re bringing back framebuilding parts, w Since we’re bringing back framebuilding parts, we figured we may as well make another batch of Permanent Pivots. These elegant CNC machined stainless steel brake bosses allow you to remove the pivots from any PAUL rim brakes, and mount your brakes directly to the boss for a super clean, simple aesthetic. These have been very popular when framebuilders are designing a bike around Racer and Racer-M brakes, which would be locked into PAUL brakes anyways, but you can also use them for any of our Canti and V brakes. It’s been many years since we’ve offered these It’s been many years since we’ve offered these single-speed/track dropouts, but we now have a limited run of 100 pairs available for those of you building 10mm axle singlespeed/track frames. The knurled self-nesting adjusters and locknuts make it super easy to center your wheel and dial in chain tension, then put the wheel right back where it belongs after re-installing it. The crackled (burned) paint job and shiny new “Pale Ale” green anodized components represent fire and new growth, a phoenix rising from the ashes of the Dixie Fire that burned 1 million acres in the northern Sierra.
This ties into our fundraiser for @sierratrails who are revolutionizing a new method of integrating fire resiliency and community protection into their years of experience building and maintaining recreational trails in Northern California.

Is Paul really weird enough to release square taper cranks in 2025? Yup, our classic 100% Pure Cranks are back, but this time with self-extracting crankbolts, 3-Bolt Direct Mount chainring interface, and JIS square-taper bottom bracket compatibility.
These are machined from super strong American milled 2024 aluminum, which means we can remove a lot of material for an elegant crankarm, without sacrificing strength and stiffness. The square taper bottom bracket interface means you can fine-tune your chainstay clearance, while the 3-Bolt direct-mount chainring means you can choose from a wide range of brands, teeth, and offsets, for a combination of killer Q-Factor and chainline.
Available on our website or from your favorite local bike shop now! (Unless this is actually an April Fools Day Joke, I’m still not sure.)
